Itinerary

Your journey begins in Fes, the intellectual and spiritual soul of Morocco. Upon your arrival at Fes-Saïss Airport, our team will provide a private transfer to your traditional Riad in the heart of the medina. Fes is home to the world’s oldest continuously operating university and a medina that has remained largely unchanged for over 1,000 years. This first day is designed to immerse you in the medieval atmosphere of Fes El-Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest car-free urban area in the world.

We begin our guided exploration at the Royal Palace Gate with its seven golden doors, followed by a panoramic view of the medina from the Southern Tower. As we enter the medina through the famous blue gate, Bab Boujloud, your senses will be overwhelmed by the scent of spices and the vibrant colors of silk. We visit the Al-Qarawiyyin University, founded in 859 AD, and the Bou Inania Madrasa, an architectural masterpiece of carved cedar and stucco. The highlight for many is the visit to the Chouara Tannery, the oldest in the world, where you can watch workers treating hides in stone vats filled with natural dyes using ancient techniques. Fes is the ultimate destination for traditional crafts, and you will see artisans working with leather, copper, and ceramics. After a day of intense exploration, you will enjoy a traditional Fassi dinner, reflecting on the incredible layers of history you have witnessed.

On the second day, we explore the imperial history surrounding Fes. Our first stop is a journey back two thousand years at Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the best-preserved Roman ruins in North Africa. As you walk along the Decumanus Maximus, you will see remarkably intact mosaics depicting scenes from Greek mythology, grand triumphal arches, and the remains of the Basilica. Nearby, we visit the holy town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, perched dramatically on two hills and considered the most sacred town in Morocco.

After lunch, we continue to the imperial city of Meknes, the “Versailles of Morocco.” Built by Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century, Meknes was designed to rival the court of Louis XIV. We will stand before the monumental Bab Mansour, widely considered the most beautiful gate in North Africa, and visit the Royal Granaries and Stables. In the late afternoon, we begin our ascent into the Middle Atlas Mountains. We pass through landscapes of limestone plateaus and stop in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its alpine architecture and tidy parks. We conclude the day in the mountain town of Azrou, surrounded by the largest cedar forest in North Africa. The crisp mountain air and the peaceful environment offer a refreshing contrast to the bustle of the imperial cities, providing a quiet evening before we head toward the High Atlas tomorrow.

Today, we travel from the Middle Atlas toward the foothills of the High Atlas to explore the stunning Ourika Valley. This region is a favorite escape for those seeking nature and authentic Berber culture. The valley is home to lush green terraces and traditional villages that seem to cling to the steep red mountainsides. The Ourika River flows through the heart of the valley, creating a fertile ribbon of life that is particularly beautiful in the morning light.

The highlight of the day is our visit to the village of Setti Fatma, the starting point for a hike to the famous seven waterfalls. As you walk along the paths, you will enjoy the sound of rushing water and the cool mountain air. After the hike, you can enjoy a traditional Berber lunch right by the riverside. This area is famous for its organic produce and genuine mountain hospitality. In the afternoon, we explore the local Berber markets (depending on the day) and visit a traditional household to learn about the ancient culture of the Atlas people. As the sun begins to set, we descend the mountains toward the “Red City.” We arrive in Marrakech in the early evening, checking into your Riad just as the city begins to glow. The energy of the Jemaa el-Fnaa square will be waiting for you, marking the perfect transition from the quiet mountains to the vibrant heart of the south.

On your final day, depending on your flight schedule, you have the opportunity to explore the wonders of Marrakech. Known for its vibrant colors and energy, the city offers a wealth of historic sites. You can visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in Marrakech, or the Bahia Palace, a 19th-century masterpiece of carved plaster and zellige tilework. Another excellent option is the Saadian Tombs, a royal necropolis that remained hidden for centuries. If you prefer a moment of peace, the Majorelle Garden, with its exotic plants and cobalt blue buildings, is a must-visit oasis.

The afternoon is perfect for a final walk through the Souks of Marrakech, where you can find everything from handmade leather bags to exotic spices. Our team will provide a private transfer from your Riad to Marrakech Menara Airport for your departure. As you prepare to board your flight, you will carry with you the memories of the medieval streets of Fes, the Roman mosaics of Volubilis, and the refreshing waterfalls of the Ourika Valley. You leave Morocco not just with souvenirs, but with a deep understanding of the diverse history and hospitality that make this kingdom so unique. Safe travels, or as we say in Morocco, Trik Salama! We hope to welcome you back to our beautiful land very soon.
